The next morning, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and informed him, so Allah the Exalted revealed: 'Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves' up to His saying: 'Complete the fast until the night.'" It was narrated from al-Hasan, ‘Ata’, Zayd ibn Aslam, Muqatil ibn Hayyan, and Qatadah something similar to that.

1678 - ‘Amr ibn Thawr al-Qaysari informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Firyabi narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "Deceive yourselves," he said: "You wrong yourselves."

1679 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat ibn Nasr narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding "Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves," he said: "You used to have intercourse with them in deceit."

His saying: "So He accepted your repentance and forgave you."
