1675 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn al-Junayd narrated to us, Abu Bakr and ‘Uthman narrated to us, Abu Shaybah reported to us, both said: Mu‘awiyah ibn Hisham narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibrahim ibn Maysarah, from Tawus, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding "They are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them," he said: "They are a source of tranquility (sakan) for you, and you are a source of tranquility for them." It was narrated from Mujahid, Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, Qatadah, al-Suddi, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan something similar to that.
1676 - Muhammad ibn ‘Ammar narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki narrated to us, Abu Ja‘far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Rabi‘ ibn Anas regarding "They are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them," he said: "They are a quilt (lihaf) for you, and you are a quilt for them."
His saying: "Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves."
1677 - Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, the nephew of Ibn Wahb, narrated to us, my paternal uncle narrated to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to us, that Musa ibn Jubayr, the freed slave of Banu Salamah, narrated to him that he heard ‘Abd Allah ibn Ka‘b ibn Malik narrating from his father, that he said: "When a man fasted in those days and slept, food and drink were forbidden to him until he broke his fast the next day. ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab returned from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, one night—having spent the evening with him—and found his wife had fallen asleep, so he woke her up and desired her. She said: 'I have already slept.' He said: 'You did not sleep.' Then he had intercourse with her. Ka‘b ibn Malik did the same. The next morning, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and informed him, so Allah the Exalted revealed: 'Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves' up to His saying: 'Complete the fast until the night.'" It was narrated from al-Hasan, ‘Ata’, Zayd ibn Aslam, Muqatil ibn Hayyan, and Qatadah something similar to that.
1678 - ‘Amr ibn Thawr al-Qaysari informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Firyabi narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "Deceive yourselves," he said: "You wrong yourselves."
1679 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat ibn Nasr narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding "Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves," he said: "You used to have intercourse with them in deceit."
His saying: "So He accepted your repentance and forgave you."

١٦٧٥ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْجُنَيْدِ، ثنا أبو بكر وعثمان، أنبأ أبا شَيْبَةَ، قَالا، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ هُنَّ لِبَاسٌ لَكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ لِبَاسٌ لَهُنَّ قَالَ: هُنَّ سَكَنٌ لَكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ سَكَنٌ لَهُنَّ، وَرُوِيَ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ وَقَتَادَةَ وَالسُّدِّيِّ وَمُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
١٦٧٦ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّشْتَكِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ هُنَّ لِبَاسٌ لَكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ لِبَاسٌ لَهُنَّ قَالَ: هُنَّ لِحَافٌ لَكُمْ، وَأَنْتُمْ لِحَافٌ لَهُنَّ.
قَوْلُهُ: عَلِمَ اللَّهُ أَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَخْتَانُونَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ
١٦٧٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ وَهْبٍ، ثنا عَمِّي، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، أَنَّ مُوسَى بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ مَوْلَى بن سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: كَانَ النَّاسُ إِذَا صَامَ الرَّجُلُ فَنَامَ، حُرِّمَ عَلَيْهِ الطَّعَامُ وَالشَّرَابُ حَتَّى يُفْطِرَ مِنَ الْغَدِ، فَرَجَعَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ مِنْ، عِنْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ، وَقَدْ سَمَرَ، عِنْدَهُ فَوَجَدَ امْرَأَتَهُ قَدْ نَامَتْ فَأَيْقَظَهَا، وَأَرَادَهَا فَقَالَتْ:
إِنَّى نِمْتُ فَقَالَ: مَا نِمْتِ، ثُمَّ وَقَعَ بِهَا. وَصَنَعَ كَعْبُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ. فَغَدَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَلِمَ اللَّهُ أَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَخْتَانُونَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: أَتِمُّوا الصِّيَامَ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ وَرُوِيَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ وَعَطَاءٍ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ وَمُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ وَقَتَادَةَ، نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
١٦٧٨ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ ثَوْرٍ الْقَيْسَارِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ «١» ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: تَخْتَانُونَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ قَالَ: تَظْلِمُونَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ.
١٦٧٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، ثنا أَسْبَاطُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ عَلِمَ اللَّهُ أَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَخْتَانُونَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تَقَعُونَ عَلَيْهِنَّ خِيَانَةً.
قَوْلُهُ: فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَفَا، عَنْكُمْ
