His saying: "until they fight you therein" to His saying: "the disbelievers"
1729 - And by the same chain, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "until they fight you therein," he says: If they fight you in the Haram, then kill them; such is the recompense of the disbelievers.

1731 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "But if they cease, then if they repent, indeed Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."
His saying: "Indeed Allah is Forgiving and Merciful"
And by the chain leading to Muqatil, regarding His saying: "Indeed Allah is Forgiving and Merciful": He forgives what was [committed] during their polytheism if they accept Islam.
His saying: "Merciful"
1732 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to us, ‘Ata’ narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "Merciful," he said: Merciful to them after repentance.

He replied: "May your mother be bereaved of you! Do you know what fitnah is? Indeed, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to fight the polytheists, and entering into [the religion] was a trial (fitnah); it is not your fighting over kingdom."
1734 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding His saying: "until there is no fitnah," he said: He says until there is no polytheism towards Allah. Mujahid(1), al-Hasan, Qatadah(2), al-Rabi‘ ibn Anas, Muqatil ibn Hayyan, al-Suddi, and Zayd ibn Aslam narrated similarly to the saying of Ibn ‘Abbas.
