His saying: That you seek bounty from your Lord.
1848 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Musa, Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn Shaqiq narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim narrated to us, Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "That you seek bounty from your Lord"—meaning by "bounty": trade and sustenance at 'Arafat and Mina, and in none of the stations of Hajj, nor at the House; so Allah permitted trade during Hajj and 'Umrah.
His saying: Then when you depart from 'Arafat
1849 - Hammad ibn al-Hasan ibn 'Anbasah narrated to us, Abu 'Amir narrated to us, from Zam'ah, from Salamah ibn Wahram, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: The people of the Jahiliyyah used to stand at 'Arafat, and when the sun was on the mountain tops as if it were turbans on the heads of men, they would depart. But the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) delayed the departure from 'Arafat until the sun had set.
1850 - 'Amr ibn 'Abd Allah al-Awdi narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Isma'il ibn Raja', from al-Ma'rur ibn Suwayd, he said: I saw Ibn 'Umar when he departed from 'Arafat, as if I were looking at him, a bald man on a camel of his, pressing forward, and he was saying: "We found that the 'Ifadah (departure) is the 'Ida' (pressing forward)."
1851 - From Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr, that he said: 'Arafat was only named (so) because it was said to Ibrahim, when the rites were shown to him, "'Arafta" (Have you known/understood?). It is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, Abu Mijlaz, and 'Ata' the like of that.
His saying: Remember Allah
1852 - Abu Muhammad ibn Bint al-Shafi'i informed us, in what he wrote to me from his father or his paternal uncle, from Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah, regarding His saying: "Then when you depart from 'Arafat, remember Allah at the Sacred Monument," and it is both of them together.
1853 - 'Amr ibn 'Abd Allah al-Awdi narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Isma'il ibn Raja', from al-Ma'rur ibn Suwayd, he said: I saw Ibn 'Umar when he departed from 'Arafat, as if I were looking at him, a bald man on a camel of his, pressing forward, and he was saying: "We found that the 'Ifadah is the 'Ida'."
(1). Ibn Kathir said: From the hadith of Zam'ah ibn Salih—its chain of narration is hasan (good), 1/351. (2). In Ibn Kathir 1/352: "And it is the two prayers together."
