205 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi 'Umar al-'Adani narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Dinar, who said: I have not heard of anyone whose sight was taken away by lightning, because of the saying of Allah: "The lightning almost snatches away their sight."
The second interpretation:
206 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said regarding what Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "The lightning almost snatches away their sight," meaning: due to the intensity of the light of the Truth.
The third interpretation:
207 - 'Ali ibn al-Mubarak informed us in what he wrote to me, Zayd ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Thawr narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid: "The lightning almost snatches away their sight," he said: This is another parable, just as when they are in the desert in the rain and fear the thunderbolts. He said: This is the saying of Allah concerning those who doubted from among the disbelievers regarding what Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) brought.
His saying: "Whenever it lights for them, they walk therein"
208 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to me, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Whenever it lights for them, they walk therein," he says: Whenever the hypocrites encounter goodness from Islam, they are reassured by it, and if Islam encounters a calamity, they arise to return to disbelief. Then, when it darkens upon them, they stop, like His saying: "And of the people is he who worships Allah on an edge. If he is touched by good, he is reassured by it," up to the end of the verse.
209 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Regarding what Muhammad ibn Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Whenever it lights for them, they walk therein, and when it darkens upon them, they stand [still]"—meaning they recognize the Truth and speak of it, so they are upright as long as they speak of it, but when they relapse from it into disbelief, they stand [still], meaning they are bewildered.
