Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 1 · Page 59His saying: "As for those who believe"

Translation · EN

273 - Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah, who said: When Allah, Blessed and Exalted, mentioned the spider and the fly, the polytheists said: "What is the matter with the spider and the fly that they are mentioned?" So Allah revealed: "Indeed, Allah is not timid to present an example—that of a mosquito or what is smaller than it."

It is narrated from al-Hasan and Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid a statement similar to that of al-Suddi and Qatadah.

His saying: "As for those who believe"

274 - Mahmud ibn Adam informed us in what he wrote to me, he said: I heard al-Nadr ibn Shumayl say: The interpretation of the believer (mu'min) is that he is secure (amin) from the punishment of Allah.

His saying, the Exalted: "Then they know that it is the truth from their Lord"

[The First Aspect]

275 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "As for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord," meaning this example.

And the second aspect:

276 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid al-Narsi narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah: "As for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord," meaning they know that it is the speech of the Most Merciful.

277 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan ibn al-Walid narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir informed me, from Qatadah, the same. He added: "That it is the speech of the Most Merciful and that it is from Allah." And something similar has been narrated from al-Rabi' ibn Anas and Mujahid.

278 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad Abu Fatimah narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashar narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "As for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord," meaning they know that they were tested by that so that Allah may know who acknowledges His command, believes His statement, and is certain that what Allah has sent down from His Book is true, and that what He said is as He said.

His saying: "But as for those who disbelieve, they say: 'What did Allah intend...'"

279 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa'id informed us, from Qatadah: "But as for those who disbelieve, in whose hearts is a disease, they say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example?'"
