His saying: "He said, 'Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful.'"
342 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "He said, 'Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful,'" i.e., with the names of these that He taught to Adam.
His saying: "They said, 'Exalted are You'"
[The First Aspect]
343 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us from Hajjaj, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, from Ibn Abbas: "Exalted are You," he said: It is His declaration of Himself being free from evil. He said: Then 'Umar said to 'Ali, while his companions were with him: "There is no god but Allah, we have known it; so what is 'Exalted be Allah' (Subhan Allah)?" 'Ali said to him: "A word that Allah has loved for Himself, was pleased with, and loved that it be said."
[The Second Aspect]
344 - My father narrated to me, Ibn Nufayl narrated to us, al-Nadr ibn 'Arabi narrated to us, he said: A man asked Maymun ibn Mihran about "Exalted be Allah." He said: "A name by which Allah is glorified and by which one is shielded from evil."
[The Third Aspect]
345 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, Abu al-Ashhab narrated to me from al-Hasan, he said: "Exalted be Allah" is a name that people cannot usurp.
His saying: "No knowledge have we except what You have taught us"
346 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas, the freedman of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl narrated to us from Ibn Ishaq: "They said, 'Exalted are You, no knowledge have we except what You have taught us, indeed it is You who is the All-Knowing, the Wise,'" i.e., we have only answered You in what You taught us, but as for what You have not taught us, You are more knowing of it than we are.
His saying: "Indeed it is You who is the All-Knowing, the Wise"
347 - And through the same chain, from Salamah, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us: "The All-Knowing," i.e., All-Knowing of what you conceal.
His saying: "The Wise"
348 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: His saying "The Wise," he said: Wise in His command.
