401 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, regarding His saying: "And for you on the earth is a place of settlement," he said: It is His saying: "Who made the earth a bed for you."
His saying: "And provision"
402 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And provision for a time," he says: A means of subsistence until death.
His saying: "For a time"
403 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah narrated to us, Isra'il reported to us, from al-Suddi, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding "And provision for a time," he said: Life.
404 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Hatim al-Zimmi narrated to us, 'Ubaydah ibn Humayd narrated to us, from 'Ammar al-Duhni, from Humayd al-Madani, from Kurayb, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And provision for a time," he said: Until he passes on to Paradise or the Fire.
405 - 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Sa'd narrated to me, my father—meaning Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman—narrated to me, from his father, from Ibrahim—meaning al-Sa'igh—from Yazid al-Nahwi, he said: 'Ikrimah said: "And provision for a time," he said: The time that cannot be anticipated.
His saying: "Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words"
There is a difference of opinion in its interpretation along six aspects, the first of which is:

406 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ishkab narrated to us, 'Ali ibn 'Asim narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, he said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: Adam—peace be upon him—said: "O Lord, tell me, if I repent and return, will you restore me to Paradise?" He said: "Yes." He said: "That is His saying: 'Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words.'"
The Second Aspect:
407 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah narrated to us, Isra'il narrated to us, from al-Suddi, from the one who narrated to him, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words," he said: Adam said: "O Lord, did You not create me with Your hand?" [He was told: "Yes." "And did You not breathe into me from Your spirit?" He was told: "Yes." "And I sneezed, so You said: 'May Allah have mercy on you,' and Your mercy preceded Your wrath?" It was said: "Yes." "And did You write upon me that I would do this?" It was said: "Yes." He said: "Tell me, if I repent, will You return me to Paradise?" He said: "Yes." Attiyah and al-Suddi interpreted it likewise.]
