His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, this is my brother."
18345 - From Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "Indeed, this is my brother," he said: "In my religion" (1).
18346 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "And he overpowered me in speech," he said: "Dawud, peace be upon him, said nothing more than: 'Surrender it to me'" (2).
His saying, the Almighty: "...and few are they." "And Dawud guessed that We had tried him."
18347 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "...and few are they," he says: "Few are those who are in it [the trial]." And regarding His saying: "...that We had tried him," he said: "We tested him" (3).
His saying, the Almighty: "And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return."
18348 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Abdullah ibn Abi Ziyad narrated to us, Sayyar narrated to us, Ja'far ibn Sulayman narrated to us, who said: I heard Malik ibn Dinar regarding His saying: "And indeed, for him is nearness to Us and a good place of return," he said: "Dawud will be made to stand on the Day of Resurrection by the leg of the Throne. Then He will say: 'O Dawud, glorify Me today with that beautiful, gentle voice with which you used to glorify Me in the world.' He will say: 'How, when You have taken it from me?' He will say: 'I am returning it to you today.' He said: So Dawud will raise his voice in a way that exhausts the delights of the people of Paradise" (4).
18349 - My father narrated to us, Mahmud ibn Khalid narrated to us, Al-Walid narrated to us, Ibn Jabir narrated to us, Makhul narrated to us, who said: When Allah granted Sulayman to Dawud, peace be upon him, he said to him: "O my son, what is the best thing?" He replied: "The tranquility of Allah and faith." He said: "And what is the worst thing?" He replied: "Disbelief after faith." He said: "And what is the sweetest thing?" He replied: "The spirit of Allah [mercy] among His servants." He said: "And what is the most refreshing thing?" He replied: "The pardon of Allah for people, and people pardoning one another." Dawud, peace be upon him, said: "You are indeed a prophet" (5).
His saying, the Almighty: "The Safinat al-Jiyad [excellent horses]."
