Israel informed me, from Sa'id ibn Masruq, from Ibrahim al-Taymi, who said: The horses that occupied Sulayman, peace and blessings be upon him, were twenty thousand horses, so he slaughtered them (1).
18351 - From Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding "The Safinat al-Jiyad [excellent horses]," he said: "The horses are horses created as He willed (2)."
His saying, the Almighty: "...until it disappeared behind the veil."
18352 - From Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "...until it disappeared behind the veil," he said: "A veil of green chrysolite surrounding the creations; from it the sky which is called the 'Green Sky' became green, and the sea became green from the sky; hence it is said: 'The Green Sea' (3)."
18353 - From Ibrahim al-Taymi, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "When there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the Safinat al-Jiyad," he said: "They were twenty thousand winged horses, so he slaughtered them (4)."
His saying, the Almighty: "...from the remembrance of my Lord."
18354 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "...from the remembrance of my Lord," he says: "From the remembrance of my Lord." And regarding "So he began to stroke," he says: "He began to stroke the necks of the horses and their legs (5)."
His saying, the Almighty: "And We certainly tried Sulayman and placed on his throne a body; then he turned [to Allah]."
18355 - And with a strong chain of narration, from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, he said: Sulayman, peace be upon him, wanted to go to the toilet, so he gave his ring to a locust [or small bird/being]. It was his wife, and she was the most beloved of his wives to him. Then the devil came in the image of Sulayman and said to her: "Give me my ring," so she gave it to him. When he wore it, the jinn, mankind, and the devils became subservient to him. When Sulayman, peace be upon him, emerged from the toilet, he said to her: "Give me my ring." She said: "I have already given it to Sulayman." He said: "I am Sulayman." She replied: "You lie, you are not Sulayman." He began not coming to anyone saying "I am Sulayman" except that they denied him, until the children began throwing stones at him. When he saw that, he knew it was from the affair of Allah, the Almighty, and the devil stood up to judge between the people.
