"You caused us to die twice and gave us life twice," he said: It is like that which is in [Surah] al-Baqarah: "You were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life." They were dead in the loins of their fathers, then He brought them forth and gave them life, then He causes them to die, then He gives them life after death.
18425 - From Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "You caused us to die twice and gave us life twice," he said: You were dead before He created you, so this is a death. Then He gave you life, so this is a life. Then He causes you to die and you return to the graves, so this is another death. Then He resurrects you on the Day of Resurrection, so this is a life. Thus, they are two deaths and two lives. It is like His saying: "How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life, and then to Him you will be returned."
18426 - Al-Rabi' narrated to us, al-Kusayb ibn Nasih narrated to us, Salih—meaning al-Murri—narrated to us, from Hisham ibn Hassan, from Ibn Sirin, from Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said: "Call upon Allah while being certain of the response, and know that Allah does not answer a supplication from a heedless, distracted heart."
His saying, the Almighty: "To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this day? [It belongs] to Allah, the One, the Prevailing."
18427 - Muhammad ibn Ghalib al-Daqqaq narrated to us, 'Ubayd ibn 'Ubaydah narrated to us, Mu'tamir narrated to us, from his father, Abu Nadrah narrated to us, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: A caller will call out before the Hour: "O people, the Hour has come upon you," and the living and the dead will hear it. He said: And Allah will descend to the lowest heaven and say: "To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this day? [It belongs] to Allah, the One, the Prevailing."
His saying, the Almighty: "He knows that which deceives the eyes and what the breasts conceal."
18428 - From Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "He knows that which deceives the eyes and what the breasts conceal," he said: A man is among people and a woman passes by them, so he shows them that he is lowering his gaze from her. But when they are heedless, he glances at her, and when they look, he lowers his gaze from her. Yet Allah has looked into his heart and [seen] that he wished to look at her private parts.
18429 - From Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "He knows that which deceives the eyes..."
