(continued) - ...from Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "I do not ask you for any reward for what I have brought you of clear proofs and guidance, except that you should love Allah, and that you draw near to Him through His obedience."
- Abu Kurayb narrated to us, Malik ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Abd al-Salam narrated to us, Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad narrated to us, from Miqsam, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Ansar said, "We did this and we did that," and it was as if they were boasting. Ibn Abbas—or al-Abbas—(Abd al-Salam expressed doubt) said, "We have merit over you." This reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), so he came to them in their gatherings and said: "O assembly of the Ansar, were you not lowly, and then Allah honored you through me?" They replied, "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Were you not astray, and then Allah guided you through me?" They replied, "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Will you not answer me?" They said, "What should we say, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Do you not say: 'Did your people not drive you out, and we sheltered you? Did they not reject you, and we believed in you? Did they not forsake you, and we supported you?'" He continued to speak until they knelt upon their knees and said, "Our wealth and what is in our hands belongs to Allah and His Messenger." He said: Then was revealed: "Say, 'I do not ask of you for this any payment, except for the love of kinsfolk.'"
- Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, a man whom he named narrated to us, Husayn al-Ashqar narrated to us, from Qays, from al-A'mash, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said: When this verse was revealed: "Say, 'I do not ask of you for this any payment, except for the love of kinsfolk,'" they said, "O Messenger of Allah, who are these people whose love Allah has commanded?" He said: "Fatima and her children, peace be upon them."
His saying, the Almighty: "And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants."
- From the hadith of Sharik al-Qadi, from Ibrahim ibn Muhajir, from Ibrahim al-Nakha'i, from Hammam, that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Allah is more joyful with the repentance of His servant than one of you who finds his lost animal in a place where he fears he will die of thirst." Hammam ibn al-Harith said: Ibn Mas'ud was asked about a man who commits adultery with a woman then marries her? He said: "There is no harm in that," and he recited: "And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants," to the end of the verse.
