by Allah, and he gave good counsel. Then he said: "What is your need, O Abu Abd Allah?" I said: "My need is that you let me return to my family." He said: "Yes."

His saying, the Almighty: "And whoever is patient and forgives"

18488 - My father narrated to us, Imran ibn Musa al-Tarasusi narrated to us, Abd al-Samad ibn Yazid, the servant of al-Fudayl ibn Iyad, narrated to us, who said: I heard al-Fudayl ibn Iyad saying: "If a man comes to you complaining to you about another man, say: 'O my brother, forgive him, for forgiveness is closer to piety.' If he says, 'My heart cannot bear forgiveness, but I will defend myself as Allah the Almighty has commanded me,' then say to him: 'If you are capable of defending yourself, then do so; otherwise, return to the door of forgiveness, for it is a wide door. Whoever forgives and makes amends, his reward is upon Allah. The one who forgives sleeps in his bed at night, while the one who seeks vengeance tosses and turns with affairs.'"

18489 - From Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When the servants stand for the Reckoning, a proclaimer will call out: 'Let those whose reward is upon Allah stand and enter Paradise.' Then he will call a second time: 'Let those whose reward is upon Allah stand.' They will ask: 'And who is it whose reward is upon Allah?' He will say: 'Those who forgive people.' So such-and-such thousands will stand, and they will enter Paradise without reckoning."

His saying, the Almighty: "...looking from a suppressed glance"

18490 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah narrated to me, from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn Abbas regarding His saying: "looking from a suppressed glance" (min tarfin khafiyyin), he said: "Humiliated."

His saying, the Almighty: "He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males."

18491 - From Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Indeed, your children are a gift from Allah: 'He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males.' They and their wealth belong to you when you are in need of them."

18492 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn Abbas regarding: "And He makes whom He wills barren," he said: "He is not made to conceive."

His saying, the Almighty: "...a spirit from Our command"

18493 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn Abbas regarding: "a spirit from Our command" (ruhan min amrina), he said: "The Quran."
