Volume 10 · Page 152[Surah al-Jathiyah (45): Verse 24]

Translation · EN

His saying, the Almighty: "And they say, 'There is not but our worldly life; we die and live, and nothing destroys us except time.'"

18539 - From Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The people of the Jahiliyyah used to say: "Nothing destroys us but the night and the day." So Allah said in His Book: "And they say, 'There is not but our worldly life; we die and live, and nothing destroys us except time.'" And Allah said: "The son of Adam harms Me by cursing time, and I am Time; in My hand is the command, I alternate the night and the day." (1)

18540 - From Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, that he recited: "And they say, 'There is not but our worldly life; we die and live.'" (2)

His saying, the Almighty: "Kneeling (Jathiyah)."

18541 - Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Yazid al-Muqri' narrated to us, Sufyan ibn Uyaynah narrated to us, from Amr, from Abdullah ibn Babah: That the Messenger of Allah said: "It is as if I see you kneeling at al-Katoum, before Hell." (3)

His saying, the Almighty: "And it will be said, 'Today We will forget you, just as you forgot the meeting of this day of yours.'"

18542 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with both of them, regarding His saying: "And it will be said, 'Today We will forget you, just as you forgot the meeting of this day of yours.'" He said: "You abandoned My remembrance and My obedience, so likewise I abandon you." As for "just as you forgot the meeting of this day of yours," he said: "You abandoned My remembrance and My obedience, so likewise you have been abandoned in the Fire."
