18663 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: They were thirteen.(1)
His saying, the Almighty: "The barren wind."
18664 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "The barren wind," he said: The intense [wind] that does not fertilize anything.(2)
18665 - Abu 'Ubayd Allah ibn akhi ibn Wahb narrated to us, my uncle 'Abd Allah ibn Wahb narrated to us, 'Abd Allah, meaning ibn 'Ayyash al-Qatabani, narrated to me, 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to me, from Darraj, from 'Isa ibn Hilal al-Sadafi, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The wind is subservient from the second [earth]—meaning from the second earth. When Allah wanted to destroy 'Ad, He commanded the guardian of the wind to send upon them a wind that would destroy 'Ad. He said: 'O my Lord, shall I send upon them a wind the size of a bull's nostril?' The Almighty said to him: 'No, if I did that, the earth and whoever is upon it would be overturned. Rather, send [it] the size of a ring.' That is the one which Allah says in His Book: 'It spared nothing that it came upon, but made it like decayed bones.'"(3)
His saying, the Almighty: "And the heaven, We built it with strength."
18666 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "And the heaven, We built it with strength (bi-ayd)," he said: With power.(4)
His saying, the Almighty: "So turn away from them, for you are not to be blamed."
18667 - Through the path of Mujahid, from 'Ali, who said: When "So turn away from them, for you are not to be blamed" was revealed, there remained no one among us who did not despair of destruction, as He commanded the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to turn away from us. Then "And remind, for indeed the reminder benefits the believers" was revealed, and our hearts were put at ease.(5)
His saying, the Almighty: "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me."
18668 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me," he said: To acknowledge My worship, whether willingly or unwillingly.(6)
His saying, the Almighty: "The Powerful."
18669 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "The Powerful (al-matin)," he says: The Strong.(7)
His saying, the Almighty: "A portion."
18670 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding "a portion (dhanuban)," he said: A bucket.(8)

١٨٦٦٣ - عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانُوا ثَلاثَةَ عَشَرَ «١» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: الرِّيحَ الْعَقِيمَ
١٨٦٦٤ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فِي قَوْلِهِ: الرِّيحَ الْعَقِيمَ قَالَ:
الشَّدِيدَةُ الَّتِي لَا تُلَقِّحَ شَيْئًا «٢» .
١٨٦٦٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَخِي بْنِ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، يَعْنِي بن عَيَّاشٍ الْقَتَبَانِيَّ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْد اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ دِرَاجٍ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ هِلالِ الصَّدَفِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، «الرِّيحُ مُسَخَّرَةٌ مِنَ الثَّانِيَةِ- يَعْنِي مِنَ الْأَرْضِ الثَّانِيَةِ- فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَهْلِكَ عَادًا أَمَرَ خَازِنَ الرِّيحِ أَنْ يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا تَهْلِكَ عادا، قال: أي رب، أرسل عيهم الرِّيحَ قَدْرَ مِنْخَرِ الثَّوْرِ؟ قَالَ لَهُ الْجَبَّارُ: لَا، إِذًا تُكْفَأُ الْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ عَلَيْهَا، وَلَكِنْ أَرْسِلْ بَقَدْرِ خَاتَمٍ فَهِيَ الَّتِي يَقُولُ اللَّهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ مَا تَذَرُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلا جَعَلَتْهُ كَالرَّمِيمِ «٣» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَالسَّمَاءَ بَنَيْنَاهَا بِأَيْدٍ
١٨٦٦٦ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَالسَّمَاءَ بَنَيْنَاهَا بِأَيْدٍ قَالَ:
بِقُوَّةٍ «٤» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَا أَنْتَ بِمَلُومٍ
١٨٦٦٧ - مِنْ طَرِيقِ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَا أَنْتَ بِمَلُومٍ لَمْ يَبْقَ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ إِلا أَيْقَنَ بِالْهَلَكَةِ إِذْ أَمَرَ- النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- بِالتَّوَلِّي عَنَّا، فَنَزَلَتْ وَذَكِّرْ فَإِنَّ الذِّكْرَى تَنفَعُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَطَابَتْ أَنْفُسُنَا «٥» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنْسَ إِلا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
١٨٦٦٨ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنْسَ إِلا لِيَعْبُدُونِ قَالَ: لَيُقِرُّوا بِالْعُبُودِيَّةِ طَوَعًا أَوْ كَرَهًا «٦» .
١٨٦٦٩ - عَنِ ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما في قوله: الْمَتِينُ يَقُولُ: الشَّدِيدُ «٧» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: ذَنُوبًا
١٨٦٧٠ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ذَنُوبًا قَالَ: دلوا «٨» .
