Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 10 · Page 183[Surat al-Rahman (55): Verse 12]

Translation · EN

it emerges like donkeys' ears, then it splits like pearls, then it turns green and becomes like green emeralds, then it turns red and becomes like red rubies, then it ripens and matures and becomes like the most delicious faludhaj (a sweet dish) to eat, then it dries and becomes a provision for the resident and a supply for the traveler. If my messengers have told me the truth, I do not see this tree but as one of the trees of Paradise." 'Umar ibn al-Khattab wrote back to him: "From 'Umar, the Commander of the Faithful, to Caesar, the King of the Romans. Your messengers have spoken the truth to you. This tree is with us, and it is the tree that Allah caused to grow for Maryam when she gave birth to 'Isa, her son. So fear Allah and do not take 'Isa as a god besides Allah. For the example of 'Isa to Allah is like that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him, 'Be!' and he is. The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters." (1)

His saying, the Almighty: "And grain having husks (asf)."

18723 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And grain having husks," he said: The straw. And "rayhan" (fragrant herbs) he said: The greenery of the crops. (2)

His saying, the Almighty: "So which of the favors of your Lord would you both deny?"

18724 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "So which of the favors of your Lord would you both deny?" he said: Which of the blessings of Allah. (3)

18725 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "So which of the favors of your Lord would you both deny?" He means the Jinn and mankind. (4)

His saying, the Almighty: "From a smokeless flame (marij) of fire."

18726 - From Ibn 'Abbas: "From a smokeless flame of fire," he said: From its blaze, from its center. (5)

18727 - From Ibn 'Abbas: "From a smokeless flame (marij)," he said: Pure fire. (6)

18728 - From Ibn 'Abbas: "From a smokeless flame (marij)," he said: From the shooting flames of fire. (7)

His saying, the Almighty: "Lord of the two easts and Lord of the two wests."

18729 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Lord of the two easts and Lord of the two wests," he said: For the sun, there is a rising point in winter and a setting point in winter, and a rising point in summer and a setting point in summer, other than its rising point in winter and other than its setting point in winter.
