18807 - From Abu Hirzah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: This verse was revealed regarding a man from the Ansar during the Battle of Tabuk. They stopped at Al-Hijr, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered them not to carry any of its water. Then he departed and stopped at another place, but they had no water with them. They complained about that to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he stood up, performed two rak'ahs of prayer, and then supplicated. He sent a cloud which rained upon them until they took water from it. Then a man from the Ansar said to another man from his people, who was accused of hypocrisy: Woe to you, do you not see what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed for, so Allah rained upon us from the sky? He said: We were only given rain by the rising of such-and-such star. So Allah revealed: "And you make your provision [for thanks] that you deny [the truth]" (1).

18808 - From 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), regarding His saying: "And you make your provision [for thanks] that you deny [the truth]", he said: Your gratitude, for you say: We were given rain by the rising of such-and-such star, and by the star of such-and-such (2).

His saying, the Almighty: "Then [for him is] rest and bounty."

18809 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Then [for him is] rest (rawh)," he said: Ease (rahah), "and bounty (rayhan)," he said: Repose (istirahah) (3).

18810 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "Then [for him is] rest and bounty," he said: The 'rawh' is mercy, and the 'rayhan' is what one is greeted with at the time of death (4).

18811 - From Abu al-'Aliyah, he said: No one among those brought near (the muqarrabin) would depart from the world until a sprig of the bounty (rayhan) of Paradise was brought to him, so he would smell it, and then his soul would be taken (5).

His saying, the Almighty: "But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray, then [for him is] hospitality of scalding water."

18812 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray, then [for him is] hospitality of scalding water," he said: The disbeliever does not exit the abode of this world until he drinks a cup of scalding water (6).

18813 - From al-Dahhak regarding the verse, he said: Whoever dies while drinking wine shall have his face struck with the embers of Hellfire (7).

His saying, the Almighty: "The certainty of truth."

18814 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "Indeed, this is the certainty of truth," he said: What we have narrated to you in this surah (8).

His saying, the Almighty: "So exalt the name of your Lord."

18815 - From Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great," he said: Pray for your Lord (9).
