to Abdullah, and said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, I fear that I have perished!" Abdullah said to him: "That is not the stinginess (al-shuh) which Allah mentioned in the Quran. The stinginess which Allah mentioned in the Quran is for you to consume the wealth of your brother unjustly, but that is avarice (al-bukhl), and what a wretched thing avarice is." (1)
His saying, the Almighty: "And those who came after them."
18856 - Musa ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Masruqi narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us, Isma'il ibn Ibrahim ibn Muhajir narrated to us, from his father, from Aishah, she said: "They were commanded to seek forgiveness for them, but they insulted them!" Then she recited this verse: "And those who came after them say, 'Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith'" (the verse). (2)
18857 - From Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, who said: "They were commanded to seek forgiveness for the companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, but they insulted them." Then she recited this verse: "And those who came after them say, 'Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith'" (3).
His saying, the Almighty: "Have you not considered those who practice hypocrisy, saying to their brothers..."
18858 - From al-Suddi, who said: "Some people from the Banu Qurayza embraced Islam along with you, and this verse was revealed concerning them: 'Have you not considered those who practice hypocrisy, saying to their brothers...'" (the verse). (4)
His saying, the Almighty: "Their hearts are divided."
18859 - From Qatadah, regarding His saying: "You think them together, while their hearts are divided," he said: "Such are the people of falsehood; their testimony is divided, their desires are divided, and their deeds are divided, yet they are united in their enmity towards the people of truth. Like the example of those before them shortly." He said: "They are the Banu al-Nadir." (5)

إِلَى عَبْدٍ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ أَكُونَ قَدْ هَلَكْتُ! فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ: لَيْسَ ذَلِكَ بِالشُّحِّ الَّذِي ذَكَرَ اللَّهُ فِي الْقُرْآنِ، إِنَّمَا الشُّحُّ الَّذِي ذَكَرَ اللَّهُ فِي الْقُرْآنِ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ مَالَ أَخِيكَ ظُلْمًا، وَلَكِنَّ ذَلِكَ الْبُخْلُ وَبِئْسَ الشيء البخل «١» .
قوله تعالى: والذين جاؤ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ
١٨٨٥٦ - حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَسْرُوقِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ابن مهاجر، عن أبيه عن عائشة أنا قَالَتْ: أُمِرُوا أَنْ يَسَتَغْفَرُوا لَهُمْ فَسَبُّوهُمْ! ثُمَّ قرأت هذه الآية والذين جاؤ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلإِخْوَانِنَا الذين سبقونا بالإيمان الآية «٢» .
١٨٨٥٧ - عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت: أمروا أن يستغفروا لأصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فسبوهم ثم قرأت هذه الآية والذين جاؤ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالْإِيمَانِ
«٣» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا يَقُولُونَ لِإِخْوَانِهِمُ
١٨٨٥٨ - عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ قَالَ: قَدْ أَسْلَمَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ قُرَيْظَةِ مَعَكُمْ، فَنَزَلَتْ فِيهِمْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا يَقُولُونَ لِإِخْوَانِهِمُ الآية «٤» .
قَوْلُهُ تعالى: قلوبهم شَتَّى
١٨٨٥٩ - عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: تَحْسَبُهُمْ جَمِيعًا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ شَتَّى قَالَ:
كَذَلِكَ أَهْلُ الْبَاطِلِ مُخْتَلِفَةٌ شَهَادَتُهُمْ، مُخْتَلِفَةٌ أَهْوَاؤُهُمْ، مَخْتَلِفَةٌ أَعْمَالُهُمْ وَهُمْ مُجْتَمِعُونَ فِي عَدَاوَةِ أَهْلِ الْحَقِّ كَمَثَلِ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ قَرِيبًا قال:
هم بنو النضير «٥» .
