Volume 10 · Page 212His saying, Exalted is He: 'With a slander they have forged'

Translation · EN

18875 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Musa al-Farra' narrated to us, Ibn Abi Za'ida informed us, Mubarak narrated to me, from al-Hasan, who said: Among the things the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) took [as a pledge] was: That you [women] should not speak with men unless it is a mahram (unmarriageable kin), for a man will continue to speak with a woman until he emits madhy (pre-seminal fluid) between his thighs. (1)

18876 - Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Ramadi narrated to us, al-Qa'nabi narrated to us, al-Hajjaj ibn Safwan narrated to us, from Asad ibn Abi Usayd al-Barrad, from a woman among those who pledged allegiance, who said: Among the things the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) took as an oath from us was that we should not disobey him in any good deed: that we should not scratch our faces, nor let our hair hang loose, nor tear our clothes, nor wail in grief. (2)

His saying, the Almighty: "With a slander they fabricate"

18877 - From the path of 'Ali, from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding "And they will not bring forth a slander they fabricate": He said: They shall not attribute to their husbands children that are not their own, "and they will not disobey you in any good deed." He said: This is a condition that Allah has stipulated for the women. (3)

18878 - From Umm Salama al-Ansariyya, who said: A woman among the ladies asked, "What is this 'good deed' in which we should not disobey you?" He replied: "That you do not wail in mourning." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, the family of so-and-so helped me with my uncle, and I must fulfill my obligation to them [in mourning]." He refused me, but I kept asking him repeatedly until he granted me permission to fulfill my obligation to them, so I did not wail after that, and there was no woman left among us who had not wailed except me.

His saying, the Almighty: "A good deed"

18879 - Regarding His saying: "And they will not disobey you in a good deed": He said: They shall not tear their garments, nor strike their cheeks. (4)
