His saying, the Almighty: "He knows what enters into the earth"
17868 - From al-Suddi, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "He knows what enters into the earth," he said: [meaning] of rain. "And what emerges from it," he said: [meaning] of vegetation. "And what descends from the heaven," he said: the angels. "And what ascends therein," he said: the angels (1).
His saying, the Almighty: "Nay, by my Lord"
17869 - From Qatadah, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "Those will have forgiveness and noble provision," he said: Forgiveness for their sins, and noble provision in Paradise. "And those who strive against Our verses, seeking to cause failure," he said: meaning they shall not escape. And regarding His saying: "Those will have a painful punishment of a loathsome kind," he said: The 'loathsome kind' (rijz) is the painful, agonizing punishment. And regarding His saying: "And those who have been given knowledge see that what is revealed to you from your Lord is the truth," he said: The companions of Muhammad (2).
His saying, the Almighty: "And those who have been given knowledge"
17870 - From al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "And those who have been given knowledge," he said: Those who were given wisdom from before. He said: It means the believers among the People of the Scripture (3).
His saying, the Almighty: "Those who disbelieved [say], 'Shall we point you to a man who informs you...'" to the end of the verse.
17871 - From Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And those who disbelieved say, 'Shall we point you to a man who informs you,'" he said: The polytheists of Quraysh said that. "'When you have been torn in all pieces,'" he says: When the earth has consumed you and you have become bones and decayed matter, and the beasts and birds have torn you apart, "'indeed, you will be in a new creation'? 'Indeed, you will be revived and resurrected?'" They said that in denial of it. "'Has he invented a lie about Allah, or is there in him madness?'" He said: They said: Either he is lying about God, or he is mad.
