Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 10 · Page 221[Surah At-Talaq (65): Verse 12]

Translation · EN

18917 - From Ibn Mas'ud that it reached him that 'Ali says: "She shall observe the waiting period of the latest of the two durations." So he said: "Whoever wishes, I shall engage in Mula'ana (invoking the curse of Allah) with him; for the verse that was revealed in Surat al-Nisa' al-Qusra was revealed after Surat al-Baqarah, and [regarding] 'And for those who are pregnant, their period is until they give birth,' [it is] such and such months. So every divorced woman or one whose husband has died, her period is until she gives birth."(1)

His saying, the Almighty: "And of the earth, the like of them."

18918 - From Abu al-Duha, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And of the earth, the like of them," he said: Seven earths, and in every earth there is a prophet like your prophet, Adam is like Adam, Nuh is like Nuh, Ibrahim is like Ibrahim, and 'Isa is like 'Isa. (2)

18919 - From Ibn 'Umar, he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "The earths—between every earth and the one that follows it is a distance of five hundred years. The highest of them is upon the back of a whale whose two ends have met in the sky, and the whale is upon a rock, and the rock is in the hand of an angel. The second is the prison of the wind. When Allah desired to destroy 'Ad, He ordered the keeper of the wind to send a wind upon them to destroy 'Ad. The Jabbar (Almighty) said to him: 'Then the earth and whoever is upon it will be overturned; rather, send upon them [the amount] of a signet ring.' That is the one of which Allah said in His Book: 'It left nothing of what it came upon, but it made it like the decayed remnants.' The third contains the stones of Hell. The fourth contains the sulfur of Hell. They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, does the Fire have sulfur?' He said: 'Yes, by Him in Whose hand is my soul, it has valleys of sulfur that, if the firm mountains were cast into them, they would melt.' The fifth contains the serpents of Hell; their mouths are like valleys, they sting the disbeliever with a sting that leaves no flesh upon his bone. The sixth contains the scorpions of Hell; the smallest scorpion among them is like a saddled mule, it strikes the disbeliever with a blow that makes him forget the heat of Hell because of its strike. And the seventh contains Saqar, and in it is Iblis, shackled with iron, one hand in front of him and one behind him; and when Allah wills to release him for what He wills, He releases him." (3)
