Translation · EN

His saying, the Almighty: "They worked for him what he willed of elevated chambers (maharib)"

17878 - From Mujahid, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "of elevated chambers," he said: Structures other than palaces. "And statues," he said: Made of copper. "And basins," he said: Vessels like reservoirs. He said: The basin is like the depression in the earth. "And caldrons (pots) set firm," he said: Large ones (1).

17879 - From Atiyyah, may God be pleased with him, regarding the verse, he said: "The maharib" are palaces. "And statues" are images. "And basins like reservoirs," he said: Like the depression in the earth.

Abd al-Razzaq, Abd ibn Humayd, Ibn Jarir, and Ibn al-Mundhir recorded from Qatadah, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "of maharib," he said: Palaces and mosques. "And statues," he said: Of marble and the like. "And basins like reservoirs," he said: Like cisterns. "And caldrons set firm," he said: Fixed, they do not move from their places; they used to be seen in the land of Yemen (2).

17880 - From Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "And basins like reservoirs," he said: Like the depression in the earth. "And caldrons set firm," he said: Their trivets (supports) are part of them (3).

His saying, the Almighty: "Work, O family of David, in gratitude"

17881 - From Thabit al-Lubnani, may God be pleased with him, who said: It reached us that David, peace be upon him, partitioned the prayer among his households, his wives, and his children, so that not an hour of the night or day would pass without someone from the family of David standing in prayer. Thus, this verse encompassed them: "Work, O family of David, in gratitude, and few of My servants are the grateful" (4).

17882 - From Mujahid, may God be pleased with him, who said: David said to Solomon, peace be upon them both: God has mentioned gratitude, so suffice me in performing the prayer of the day (5).

17883 - From Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, may God be pleased with him, who said: Gratitude is the fear of God and acting in obedience to Him (6).
