Translation · EN

His (Exalted is He) saying: "Woe to you, and woe!"

19069 - Aḥmad ibn Sinān al-Wāsiṭī narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān—meaning Ibn Mahdī—narrated to us, from Isrāʾīl, from Mūsā ibn Abī ʿĀʾishah who said: I asked Saʿīd ibn Jubayr and he said: "Woe to you, and woe! Then, woe to you, and woe!" He said: The Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace) said it to Abū Jahl, then the Quran was revealed concerning it.

19070 - My father narrated to us, Hishām ibn Khālid narrated to us, Shuʿayb ibn Isḥāq narrated to us, Saʿīd narrated to us, from Qatādah, regarding his saying: "Woe to you, and woe! Then, woe to you, and woe!"—a threat followed by a threat, as you hear. And they claimed that the enemy of God, Abū Jahl, was seized by the Prophet of God by the folds of his garment, then he said: "Woe to you, and woe! Then, woe to you, and woe!" So the enemy of God, Abū Jahl, said: "Do you threaten me, O Muḥammad? By God, neither you nor your Lord can do anything, and I am the most powerful of those who walk between its two mountains."

His (Exalted is He) saying: "Stretching himself"

19071 - From Ibn ʿAbbās, regarding His saying: "Stretching himself," he said: He acts haughtily.

His (Exalted is He) saying: "To be left neglected"

19072 - From Ibn ʿAbbās, he said: "Neglected" means abandoned.

His (Exalted is He) saying: "Is that not able to give life to the dead?"

19073 - Al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ narrated to us, Shabābah narrated to us, from Shuʿbah, from Mūsā ibn Abī ʿĀʾishah, from another person: That he was upon a rooftop, reciting and raising his voice with the Quran. When he recited, "Is that not able to give life to the dead?" he would say: "Glory be to You, O God, so indeed [I affirm that]." He was asked about that and said: I heard the Messenger of God (may God bless him and grant him peace) say that.

19074 - Aḥmad ibn Sinān al-Wāsiṭī narrated to us, Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī narrated to us, Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from Muslim al-Baṭīn, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, that he passed by this verse: "Is that not able to give life to the dead?" He said: "Glory be to You, so indeed."
