- Abū Saʿīd al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abū Usāmah narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl, from al-Shaʿbī regarding "That you will surely experience state after state," he said: "You will surely experience, O Muḥammad, heaven after heaven." Thus it is narrated from Ibn Masʿūd, Masrūq, and Abū al-ʿĀliyah regarding "state after state": "heaven after heaven."
- My father narrated to us, Hishām ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us, Ṣadaqah narrated to us, Ibn Jābir narrated to us: that he heard Makḥūl saying regarding the statement of Allah: "That you will surely experience state after state," he said: "Every twenty years you introduce an affair that you were not upon before."
- From Makḥūl regarding His statement: "That you will surely experience state after state," he said: "Every twenty years you introduce an affair that you were not upon before."
His statement, the Almighty: "And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves."
- From Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His statement: "And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves," he said: "What they conceal."
- It was mentioned from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Zāhir: My father narrated to me, from ʿAmr ibn Shamir, from Jābir—meaning al-Juʿfī—from Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) saying: "Indeed, the son of Adam is in heedlessness regarding what he was created for. When Allah intends his creation, He says to the angel: 'Write his provision, write his lifespan, write his traces, write [whether he will be] wretched or happy.' Then that angel ascends, and Allah sends an angel to him to protect him until he reaches maturity. Then that angel ascends, and Allah appoints two angels over him who record his good and bad deeds. When death approaches him, those two angels ascend, and the Angel of Death comes to him and seizes his soul. When he enters his grave, the soul is returned to his body; then the Angel of Death ascends, and the two angels of the grave come to him and examine him, then they ascend. When the Hour is established, the angel of good deeds and the angel of bad deeds descend upon him and unbind a book bound upon his neck. Then they accompany him: one driving and another testifying. Then Allah (the Almighty and Exalted) says: 'You were in heedlessness of this.' The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) then said regarding: 'That you will surely experience state after state,' he said: 'State after state.' Then the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: 'Indeed, before you is a great matter that you are not capable of, so seek help from Allah the Almighty.'" This is a munkar (rejected) ḥadīth.
