Translation · EN

- With a weak chain of narration, on the authority of Kathīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿAwf, from his father, from his grandfather, from the Prophet (may Allāh bless him and grant him peace), that he used to command the payment of Zakāt al-Fiṭr before the ʿĪd prayer, and he would recite this verse: "He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself, and mentions the name of his Lord and prays." In one wording, it says: The Messenger of Allāh (may Allāh bless him and grant him peace) was asked about Zakāt al-Fiṭr, and he said: "He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself." Then he said: It is "Zakāt al-Fiṭr."

- On the authority of ʿAṭāʾ (may Allāh be pleased with him) regarding "He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself," he said: He paid the Zakāt al-Fiṭr.

- On the authority of Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn (may Allāh be pleased with him) regarding His statement: "He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself," he said: He paid the Ṣadaqat al-Fiṭr, then went out and prayed after he had paid it.

- On the authority of ʿAṭāʾ (may Allāh be pleased with him), he said: I said to Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allāh be pleased with them both), "What do you think of His saying: 'He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself,' regarding the Fiṭr (the breaking of the fast)?" He said, "I have not heard of that, but rather the Zakāt in its entirety." Then I returned to the subject with him, and he said to me, "And all forms of charity."

- On the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr (may Allāh be pleased with him) regarding "He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself," meaning from his wealth.

- On the authority of Qatādah (may Allāh be pleased with him) regarding "He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself," he said: Whoever pleases his Creator with his wealth.

- On the authority of Abū al-Aḥwaṣ (may Allāh be pleased with him), he said: If one who gives charity were to pray two rakʿahs and then recite "He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself," [it is good].

- On the authority of Ibn Masʿūd (may Allāh be pleased with him), he said: If one of you goes out intending to pray, there is no harm in him giving something in charity, because Allāh says: "He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself, and mentions the name of his Lord and prays."
