Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 10 · Page 282[Surah al-Ghashiyah (88): Verses 17 to 20]

Translation · EN

Thawbān, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Qurrah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḍamrah, from Abū Hurayrah who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: "The rivers of Paradise flow from beneath hills—or from beneath mountains—of musk." (1)

His statement, the Exalted: "Do they not look at the camels, how they are created?" ... to His statement, the Exalted: "And at the earth, how it is spread out?"

19268 - On the authority of Qatādah who said: When Allāh described what is in Paradise, the people of misguidance were amazed by it. So Allāh sent down: "Do they not look at the camels, how they are created?"—and the camels were a means of livelihood and a gift among the Arabs—"And at the sky, how it is raised? And at the mountains, how they are firmly set?" He said: You climb the mountains and rocks for your entire day, then when you reach the top, you arrive at gushing springs and hanging fruits that were not planted by hands and not cultivated by people; a blessing from Allāh until an appointed time. "And at the earth, how it is spread out?"—meaning, it was leveled. He says: Indeed, the One who created this is capable of creating in Paradise whatever He wills. (2)

His statement, the Exalted: "You are not a dictator over them."

19296 - On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His statement: "You are not a dictator over them," he says: With a tyrant; so pardon them and overlook their faults. (3)

19297 - On the authority of al-Ḍaḥḥāk (may Allāh be pleased with him) regarding "dictator" (muṣayṭir), he said: One who is empowered. (4)

His statement, the Exalted: "Then indeed, their return is to Us."

19228 - On the authority of al-Suddī regarding "Then indeed, their return is to Us," he said: Their final destination. (5)
