Translation · EN

His statement, the Exalted: "And they spread much corruption therein. So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment."

19265 - On the authority of al-Suddī regarding His statement: "And they spread much corruption therein," he said: Through acts of disobedience. "So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment," he said: A repeated punishment.

19266 - On the authority of Qatādah, he said: Everything with which Allāh punishes is a "scourge of punishment."

His statement, the Exalted: "Indeed, your Lord is in observation."

19267 - On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His statement: "Indeed, your Lord is in observation," he said: He hears and He sees.

19268 - On the authority of al-Ḥasan regarding "Indeed, your Lord is in observation," he said: In observation of the deeds of the children of Adam.

19269 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Ṣafwān ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, [saying]: al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us, from Ṣafwān ibn ʿAmr, from Ayfaʿ ibn ʿAbd al-Kalāʿī: That he heard him while he was exhorting the people, saying: "Indeed, Hell has seven arches." He said: "And the Path (al-Ṣirāṭ) is over them." He said: "The creatures are detained at the first arch, and it is said: 'Stop them, for they are to be questioned.'" He said: "Then they are held to account regarding the prayer and questioned about it." He said: "Then those who perish there will perish, and those who are saved will be saved. When they reach the second arch, they are held to account regarding the trust: How did they fulfill it, and how did they betray it?" He said: "Then those who perish will perish, and those who are saved will be saved. When they reach the third arch, they are asked about kinship: How did they maintain it, and how did they sever it?" He said: "Then those who perish will perish, and those who are saved will be saved." He said: "And kinship on that day will be suspended into the abyss of Hell, saying: 'O Allāh, whoever maintained me, maintain him, and whoever severed me, sever him.'" He said: "And this is what Allāh, the Almighty and Majestic, refers to: 'Indeed, your Lord is in observation.'"

19270 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Ḥawārī narrated to us, [saying]: Yūnus al-Ḥadhdhāʾ narrated to us, from Abū Ḥamzah al-Baysānī, from Muʿādh ibn Jabal, who said: The Messenger of Allāh, may Allāh bless him and grant him peace, said: "O Muʿādh, the believer is a prisoner before the Truth. O Muʿādh, the believer's anxiety does not subside, nor does his agitation feel secure, until he leaves the bridge of Hell behind his back. O Muʿādh, the believer is constrained by the Qurʾān from many of his desires, and from perishing within them—he is so by the permission of Allāh, the Almighty and Majestic. The Qurʾān is his guide, fear is his argument, longing is his mount, prayer is his sanctuary, fasting is his shield, charity is his ransom, truthfulness is his commander, modesty is his minister, and his Lord, the Almighty and Majestic, is behind all of that in observation."
