His statement, the Exalted: "As for man."
19271 - On the authority of al-Ḥasan regarding His statement: "As for man"—the verse—he said: "No, you have denied them all; He did not honor you with wealth, nor did He disgrace you with poverty. Then He informed them of what disgraces them, but rather you do not honor the orphan"—the verse.
19272 - On the authority of Mujāhid regarding the verse, he said: He assumed the honor of Allāh is in wealth, and that is a lie. He only honors through His obedience, and He disgraces with His disobedience whoever He disgraces.
His statement, the Exalted: "But restricts his provision for him."
19273 - On the authority of Zayd regarding "But restricts his provision for him," he said: He tightens it for him.
19274 - On the authority of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf, that the Prophet, may Allāh bless him and grant him peace, read "But you do not honor the orphan, and you do not encourage" with a "yā" [instead of "tā"].
His statement, the Exalted: "And you devour the inheritance, devouring [it] greedily."
19275 - On the authority of ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muzanī regarding His statement: "And you devour the inheritance, devouring [it] greedily," he said: The "lamm" is transgression in inheritance; he devours his inheritance and the inheritance of others.
19276 - On the authority of Qatādah regarding "And you devour the inheritance," he said: The inheritance, "devouring [it] greedily," he said: Intensely. "And you love wealth with immense love," he said: Intensely.
19277 - On the authority of Mujāhid regarding His statement: "devouring [it] greedily," he said: The "lamm" is gathering. And regarding His statement: "with immense love," he said: "Jamm" is the abundant [amount].
19278 - On the authority of al-Ḥasan regarding His statement: "devouring [it] greedily," he said: From good or evil. And regarding His statement: "with immense love," he said: Exorbitant.
19279 - On the authority of Ibn Zayd, may Allāh be pleased with him, regarding the verse, he said: The "lamm" eating is that which gathers everything it finds; he does not ask about it, he eats what is his and what belongs to his companion, not knowing whether it is lawful or unlawful.
19280 - On the authority of Sufyān, may Allāh be pleased with him, that he said regarding His statement: "And you love wealth with immense love," the Messenger of Allāh, may Allāh bless him and grant him peace, said: "There is not one of you except that his heir's wealth is more beloved to him than his own wealth."
