17901 - From al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And We had not given them any scriptures which they could study," he said: They did not have a scripture which they could study, so that they might know whether what you have brought is true or false.

17902 - From Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them both, regarding [His saying]: "...and they have not attained a tenth of what We had given them," he says: Of power in this world.

17903 - From Qatada, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "Say: Whatever I asked of you for a reward," meaning a wage, "it is yours," he says: I have not asked you for a wage for [preaching] Islam. And regarding His saying: "Say: Indeed, my Lord hurls the truth... and the false creates no beginning," he said: Satan: He does not begin nor does he repeat when he has perished.

17904 - From al-Suddi, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "hurls the truth," he said: It descends with the revelation.

His saying, the Almighty: "But if you could see when they are terrified, and there is no escape, and they are seized from a place near."

17905 - From Qatada, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "But if you could see when they are terrified," he said: In this world, at the time of death, when they behold the angels and see the punishment of God. And [regarding] "And how could they attain [faith] from a far place," he said: There is no way for them to attain faith, like His saying: "And when they saw Our punishment, they said: We believe in God alone... and they had disbelieved in Him before." He said: They used to be invited to it while they were in ease and comfort, yet they did not believe in it. And they "cast at the unseen," meaning they guess with conjecture, saying: There is no Paradise, nor Fire, nor Resurrection. And "It was placed as a barrier between them and what they desire." He said: They desired the obedience of God, if only they had acted, but a barrier was placed between them and that.

17906 - From Mujahid, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "But if you could see when they are terrified," he said: On the Day of Resurrection. "And there is no escape," they will not escape from your Lord.

17907 - From al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "But if you could see when they are terrified," he said: In the graves, from the Blast.

His saying, the Almighty: "And they said: We believe in it. And how could they attain [faith] from a far place, when they had disbelieved in it before, and they cast at the unseen from a far place?"

17908 - From Mujahid, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "And they said: We believe in it," he said: God.
