19308 - On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās regarding "And by a father and what he begot," he said: The father is the one who begets, and "what he begot" is the barren one who does not beget, among men and women. ʿIkrimah said: The father is the barren one, and "what he begot" is the one who begets.

19309 - On the authority of Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī regarding "And by a father and what he begot," he said: Ibrāhīm and what he begot.

His saying, the Almighty: "We have certainly created man in affliction [Kabad]," up to His saying: "Does he think that no one has power over him?"

19310 - On the authority of Mujāhid regarding "And by a father and what he begot," he said: The father is Ādam and what he begot is his children. Regarding "We have certainly created man in Kabad," he said: In hardship. Regarding "He says: I have wasted wealth in abundance [Lubadan]," he said: A large amount. Regarding "Does he think that no one has power over him?" he said: That no one has power over him.

19311 - On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās regarding "We have certainly created man in Kabad," he said: In the hardship of creation, in his birth, the sprouting of his teeth, his difficulties, his livelihood, and his circumcision.

19312 - On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās regarding "We have certainly created man in Kabad," he said: Standing upright in his mother's womb.

19313 - On the authority of Ibrāhīm, may Allāh be pleased with him—I believe it is from ʿAbd Allāh—regarding "in Kabad," he said: Standing upright.

19314 - On the authority of al-Ḥasan, may Allāh be pleased with him, regarding "We have certainly created man in Kabad," he said: He struggles through the straits of the world and the hardships of the Hereafter.

19315 - On the authority of al-Ḥasan, may Allāh be pleased with him, regarding "We have certainly created man in Kabad," he said: He struggles with the affairs of the world and the affairs of the Hereafter.

19316 - Aḥmad b. ʿIṣām narrated to us, Abū ʿĀṣim narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd b. Jaʿfar informed us, I heard Muḥammad b. ʿAlī, Abū Jaʿfar al-Bāqir, asking a man from the Anṣār about the saying of Allāh: "We have certainly created man in Kabad." He said: In his standing and his uprightness. Abū Jaʿfar did not deny it.
