His saying, the Almighty: "By the sun and its brightness" up to His saying: "And He does not fear its consequences"

19340 - On the authority of Mujāhid regarding: "By the sun and its brightness," he said: Its light. "And the moon when it follows it," he said: It follows it. "And the day when it displays it," he said: It illuminates. "And the night when it covers it," he said: The night covers it. "And the sky and He who built it," he said: Allāh built the sky. "And the earth and He who spread it," he said: He leveled it. "And inspired it [with conscience of] its wickedness and its righteousness," he said: He made it know its wretchedness. "He has succeeded who purifies it," he said: He rectifies it. "And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]," he said: He misguides it. "Thamūd denied [their Lord] by their transgression," he said: By their disobedience. "And He does not fear its consequences," he said: Allāh does not fear its consequences.

19341 - On the authority of Mujāhid regarding: "By the sun and its brightness," he said: Its radiance. "And the moon when it follows it," he said: It follows it. "And the day when it displays it," he said: When it becomes manifest. "And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it," he said: He proportioned its creation and did not diminish it by anything.

19342 - On the authority of Qatādah regarding: "By the sun and its brightness," he said: This is the day. "And the moon when it follows it," he said: It follows the new crescent moon; when it sets, it is seen upon its setting. "And the day when it displays it," he said: When the day covers it.

19343 - On the authority of Ṣafwān, Yaʿqūb ibn Dhī Ḥamāmah narrated to us, he said: When the night comes, the Lord, Majestic is His Majesty, says: "My servants are covered in My great creation; so the night is held in awe, and He who created it is more deserving to be feared."

19344 - On the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr regarding: "And inspired it [with conscience of] its wickedness and its righteousness," he said: He enforced upon it its wickedness and its righteousness.

19345 - On the authority of al-Ḍaḥḥāk regarding: "And inspired it [with conscience of] its wickedness and its righteousness," he said: Obedience and disobedience.

19346 - My father and Abū Zurʿah narrated to us, they said: Abū Mālik—meaning ʿAmr ibn Hishām—narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk, from Ibn ʿAbbās, he said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) saying regarding the saying of Allāh: "He has succeeded who purifies it," the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: "Succeeded is the soul which Allāh has purified."
