Sūrat al-Humazah

104

His saying, the Exalted: "Woe to every backbiter and slanderer."

19469 - From Ibn ʿUmar, that it was said to him: "This verse was revealed concerning the Companions of Muḥammad: 'Woe to every backbiter and slanderer.'" Ibn ʿUmar said: "We were not meant by it, nor were we meant by a tenth of the Qur'an."

19470 - From Ibn Isḥāq, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar, he said: "We continued to hear that 'Woe to every backbiter and slanderer'—he said: It does not impede anyone—was revealed concerning Jamīl ibn ʿĀmir."

19471 - From al-Suddī, regarding His saying: "Woe to every backbiter and slanderer"—concerning al-Akhnas ibn Shurayq.

From Ibn ʿAbbās, that he was asked about His saying: "Woe to every backbiter and slanderer," he said: "He is the one who goes about with slander, the one who causes division among the collective, and the one who incites enmity between brothers."

19472 - From Mujāhid, he said: "The Humazah (backbiter) is the one who finds fault with people, and the Lumazah (slanderer) is the one who consumes the flesh of people."

His saying, the Exalted: "Who has collected wealth and counted it."

19473 - From al-Suddī, regarding His saying: "Who has collected wealth and counted it," he said: "He has enumerated it."

His saying, the Exalted: "He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal."

19474 - From ʿIkrimah, regarding His saying: "He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal," he said: "[He thinks it] will increase his lifespan."

His saying, the Exalted: "Nay! He will surely be thrown."

19475 - From al-Suddī, regarding His saying: "Nay! He will surely be thrown," he said: "He will surely be cast [into the Fire]."

19476 - From al-Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid, he said: "Al-Ḥuṭamah is a door from the doors of Hell."
