Sūrat Quraysh
106
19486- From Asmāʾ bt. Yazīd, she said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) say: "[For the accustomed security of the Quraysh, their security in the winter and summer caravan]—woe to you, O Quraysh! Worship the Lord of this House, who fed them against hunger and secured them from fear." (1)
His saying: "For the accustomed security of the Quraysh."
19487- From Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His saying: "For the accustomed security of the Quraysh," he said: His blessing upon Quraysh, their security in the winter and summer caravan. He said: They used to spend the winter in Mecca and the summer in al-Ṭāʾif, so that they might worship the Lord of this House.
He said: The Kaʿbah, "who fed them against hunger and secured them from fear," he said: It is hunger. (2)
19488- From Mujāhid regarding His saying: "For the accustomed security of the Quraysh," he said: My blessing upon Quraysh. (3)
"Their security in the winter and summer caravan," he said: Their security in that, so that the winter and summer caravan would not be difficult for them. And "secured them from fear," he said: From every raid within their sanctuary. (4)
His saying: "Who fed them against hunger."
19489- From Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His saying: "Who fed them against hunger," he means Quraysh, the people of Mecca, by the supplication of Ibrāhīm—when he said: "And provide them with fruits," and "secured them from fear," when Ibrāhīm said: "My Lord, make this city secure." (5)
19490- From Qatādah regarding His saying: "For the accustomed security of the Quraysh," he said: The habit of Quraysh was a caravan in the winter and a caravan in the summer. And regarding His saying: "And secured them from fear," he said: They used to say, "We are those whom Allāh has sanctified," so no one in the Jāhiliyyah would attack them, and they were safe because of that, while other tribes of the Arabs would be raided when they went out. (6)
19491- From ʿIkrimah, he said: Quraysh used to trade, in winter and summer. They would take the route of the sea and Aylah toward Palestine in the winter, seeking warmth. As for the summer, they would go toward Buṣrā and Adhriʿāt, seeking the cold. That is His saying: "Their security." (7)
