So when the son of the Prophet (ﷺ) died, al-ʿĀṣ b. Wāʾil said: "He is cut off [butira]." The al-abtar is the one who is childless (1).
His saying: Your shāniʾ [hater].
19515- From Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His saying: "Indeed, your shāniʾ," he says: Your enemy (2).
19516- From ʿAṭāʾ regarding His saying: "Indeed, your shāniʾ," he said: Abū Jahl (3).
19517- From Shahr b. ʿAṭiyyah from Ibrāhīm, he said: ʿUqbah b. Abī Muʿayṭ used to say: "The Prophet (ﷺ) will have no progeny remaining, and he is abtar [cut-off]." So Allāh revealed regarding him: "Indeed, your hater is the one cut off" (4).
Sūrat al-Kāfirūn
109 [19518]
From Abū ʿAbbās (may Allāh be pleased with both of them) that Quraysh promised the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) that they would give him wealth so he would be the richest man in Mecca, and they would marry him to whichever women he wanted. They said: "This is for you, O Muḥammad, provided you stop insulting our deities and do not mention our deities with evil. If you do not do that, then we propose to you one thing, and therein lies goodness for you." He said: "What is it?" They said: "You worship our deities for a year, and we worship your God for a year." He said: "[Wait] until I see what comes to me from my Lord." Then the revelation came from Allāh (5).
"Say, 'O disbelievers, I do not worship what you worship,'" [to the end of] the verse.
19519- From Saʿīd b. Mīnā, the freed slave of Abū al-Bakhtarī, he said: Al-Walīd b. al-Mughīrah, al-ʿĀṣ b. Wāʾil, al-Aswad b. al-Muṭṭalib, and Umayyah b. Khalaf met the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) and said: "O Muḥammad, come let us worship what you worship, and you worship what we worship, and let us partner with you in all our affairs. If that which we are upon is more correct than that which you are upon, we will have taken a share of it, and if that which you are upon is more correct than that which we are upon, we will have taken a share of it." So Allāh revealed: "Say, 'O disbelievers, I do not worship what you worship'" until the end of the Sūrah.
19520- From Zurārah b. Awfā, he said: This Sūrah used to be called "al-Muqashqishah" [The Absolver/The Exonerator].

فَلَمَّا مَاتَ وَلَدُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْعَاصِي بْنُ وَائِلٍ: بُتِرَ: وَالْأَبْتَرُ الْفَرْدُ «١» .
قَوْلُهُ: شَانِئَكَ
١٩٥١٥ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ يَقُولُ: عَدُوُّكَ «٢» .
١٩٥١٦ - عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَوْلُهُ: إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ قَالَ: أَبُو جَهْلٍ «٣» .
١٩٥١٧ - عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ كَانَ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ يَقُولُ: إِنَّهُ لا يَبْقَى النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَدٌ وَهُوَ أَبْتَرُ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ «٤» .
سُورَةُ الْكافرون

عَنْ أَبِي عَبَّاسٍ رضِيَ اللَّهُ عنهما أن قريشا وعت رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى أَنْ يُعْطُوهُ مَالًا فَيَكُونَ أَغْنَى رَجُلٍ بِمَكَّةَ وَيُزَوِّجُوهُ مَا أَرَادَ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ، فَقَالُوا: هَذَا لَكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ وَكُفَّ عَنْ شَتْمِ آلِهَتِنَا وَلا تَذْكُرْ آلِهَتَنَا بِسُوءٍ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَإِنَّا نَعْرِضُ عَلَيْكَ خَصْلَةً وَاحِدَةً وَلَكَ فِيهَا صَلاحٌ قَالَ مَا هِيَ؟ قَالُوا تَعْبُدُ آلِهَتَنَا سَنَةً وَنَعْبُدُ إِلَهَكَ سَنَةً، قَالَ: حَتَّى أَنْظُرَ ما يأتين مِنْ رَبِّي فَجَاءَ الْوَحْيُ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ «٥» .
قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ لا أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ الْآيَةَ
١٩٥١٩ - عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مِينَا مَوْلَى أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ قَالَ: لَقِيَ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ وَالْعَاصِي بْنُ وَائِلٍ، وَالْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَأُمَيَّةُ بْنُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا: يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَلْتَعْبُدْ مَا نَعْبُدُ وَنَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُ، وَلْنَشْتَرِكَ نَحْنُ وَأَنْتَ فِي أَمْرِنَا كله فإن كان الذي نحن عَلَيْهِ أَصَحَّ مِنَ الَّذِي أَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ، كُنْتُ قَدْ أَخَذْتُ مِنْهُ حَظًّا، وَإِنْ كَانَ الَّذِي أَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَصَحَّ مِنَ الَّذِي نَحْنُ عَلَيْهِ كُنَّا قَدْ أَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ حَظًّا فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ: قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ لا أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ حَتَّى انْقَضَتِ السُّورَةُ.
١٩٥٢٠ - عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى قَالَ: كَانَتْ هَذِهِ السُّورَةُ تُسَمَّى الْمُقَشْقِشَةُ.
