[His saying, the Exalted: "They cannot listen to the Highest Assembly."]

18133 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he used to recite "They cannot listen (la yassamma'una) to the Highest Assembly" with a lightened [diacritical] form. He said: "They used to try to listen, but they do not hear."

18134 - From al-Suddi, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying, the Exalted: "They cannot listen to the Highest Assembly," he said: "The angels."

His saying, the Exalted: "And they are cast from every side."

18135 - From Mujahid, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "And they are cast from every side," he said: "They are pelted from every place." Regarding "in rejection," he said: "Driven away." Regarding "and for them is an everlasting punishment," he said: "Eternal."

His saying, the Exalted: "Except one who steals a snatch."

18136 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "Except one who steals a snatch," he says: "Except one who steals a hearing of the voices of the angels, then a flame pursues him," meaning: "The stars."

His saying, the Exalted: "Then a piercing flame pursues him."

18137 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, he said: "When a flame is shot, it does not miss the one at whom it was aimed," and he recited: "Then a piercing flame pursues him."

18138 - From Yazid al-Raqashi, regarding His saying: "a piercing flame," he said: "It pierces the devil until it exits from the other side." This was mentioned to Abu Mijlaz, may Allah be pleased with him, and he said: "It is not that, but its piercing is its light."

18139 - From al-Dahhak, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "a piercing flame," he said: "Its light when it descends and strikes the devil."

18140 - From Ibn Yazid, he said: "The piercing (al-thaqib): The blazing."

18141 - From al-Suddi, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "The piercing (al-thaqib): The burning."
