His saying, the Exalted: "With a cup from a flowing spring."
18174 - From al-Dahhak, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: "Every 'cup' (ka's) that Allah has mentioned in the Quran, He means by it wine."
18175 - From Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "With a cup from a flowing spring," he said: "A cup of wine that has not been pressed. The 'flowing spring' (ma'in) is that which flows. 'No harm will there be therein, nor will they be intoxicated' (la fiha ghawl wa la hum 'anha yunzafun)," he said: "It will not take away their intellects, nor will it cause them headaches, nor will it cause them stomach pain."
18176 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "They will be circulated among them with a cup from a flowing spring," he said: "Wine. 'No harm will there be therein' (la fiha ghawl)," he said: "There is no headache therein, 'nor will they be intoxicated' (la hum 'anha yunzafun)," he said: "It will not take away their intellects."
His saying, the Exalted: "No harm will there be therein, nor will they be intoxicated."
18177 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, he said: "There are four characteristics in wine: drunkenness, headache, vomiting, and urine. Allah purified the wine of Paradise from them. 'No harm will there be therein' (la fiha ghawl): it will not destroy their intellects through drunkenness; 'nor will they be intoxicated' (la hum 'anha yunzafun): they will not vomit from it as the drinker of worldly wine vomits from it, and vomiting is something loathsome."
18178 - From Mujahid, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "No harm will there be therein" (la fiha ghawl), he said: "Stomach pain; 'nor will they be intoxicated' (la hum 'anha yunzafun)," he said: "It will not take away their intellects."
18179 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "With a cup from a flowing spring" (bi-ka'sin min ma'in), he said: "The 'flowing spring' (al-ma'in) is wine. 'No harm will there be therein' (la fiha ghawl)," he said: "Stomach pain; 'nor will they be intoxicated' (la hum 'anha yunzafun): there is nothing detestable or harmful therein."
His saying, the Exalted: "And with them will be those who restrain their glances."
18180 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "And with them will be those who restrain their glances" (wa 'indahu qasirat al-tarf), he says: "From other than their husbands. 'As if they were delicate and preserved eggs' (ka'annahunna baydun maknun)," he said: "The preserved pearls."
