18190 - From Qatadah, regarding "Then they will turn to one another, asking [each other]," he said: "The people of Paradise."

His saying, the Exalted: "By Allah, you almost brought me to ruin."

18191 - Al-Hasan ibn 'Arafah narrated to us, 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Abbar Abu Hafs narrated to us, who said: I asked Isma'il al-Suddi about this verse: "A speaker among them will say, 'Indeed, I had a companion [on earth], who would say, "Are you indeed of those who believe?"'" He said: Then he said to me: "What reminded you of this?" I replied: "I read it just now and I wanted to ask you about it." He said: "Then memorize this: There were two partners among the Children of Israel, one of them a believer and the other a disbeliever. They parted ways with six thousand dinars, each of them having three thousand dinars. They remained for as long as Allah willed them to remain, then they met. The disbeliever said to the believer: 'What did you do with your wealth? Did you invest it in anything? Did you trade with it in anything?' The believer said to him: 'No. What did you do?' He said: 'I bought land, palm trees, crops, and rivers with it.' He said: So the believer said to him: 'Did you really do that?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: So the believer returned, and when it was night, he prayed as much as Allah willed him to pray. When he finished, he took one thousand dinars and placed them before him, then said: 'O Allah, such-and-such person—meaning his disbelieving partner—bought land, palm trees, crops, and rivers for one thousand dinars, and he will die tomorrow and leave them behind. O Allah, I have bought from You with these one thousand dinars land, palm trees, and crops in Paradise.' He said: Then he woke up and distributed it among the poor. He said: Then they remained for as long as Allah willed them to remain, then they met. The disbeliever said to the believer: 'What did you do with your wealth? Did you invest it in anything? Did you trade with it in anything?' He said: 'No. What did you do?' He said: 'My estate's maintenance became heavy for me, so I bought servants with one thousand dinars to tend to it for me and work for me in it.' The believer said to him: 'Did you really do that?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: So the believer returned, and when it was night, he prayed as much as Allah willed him to pray. When he finished, he took one thousand dinars and placed them before him, then said: 'O Allah, such-and-such person—meaning his disbelieving partner—bought servants from the servants of the world with one thousand dinars, and he will die tomorrow and leave them, or they will die and leave him. O Allah, I buy from You with these one thousand dinars servants in Paradise.' Then he woke up and distributed it among the poor. He said: Then they remained for as long as Allah willed them to remain, then they met. The disbeliever said to the believer: 'What did you do with your wealth? Did you invest it in anything?
