18229 - From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion," he said: When he walked with his father.

18230 - From Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him): "And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion," he said: When he grew up until he attained his exertion—the exertion of Abraham in work. "And when they had submitted [themselves to the will of Allah]," he said: They both submitted to what they were commanded to do. "And he put him down upon his forehead," he said: He placed his face toward the ground. He did so. When he inserted his hand to slaughter him, it was called out: "O Abraham, you have fulfilled the vision." So he held back his hand and raised his head, and he saw the ram descending toward him until it landed upon him, so he slaughtered it.

18231 - From Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: The vision of the prophets is revelation."

18232 - From Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: When Abraham, peace be upon him, was commanded to perform the rituals, Satan appeared to him at the al-Mas'a, so he raced him, and Abraham, peace be upon him, outran him. Then Gabriel, peace be upon him, took him to the Jamrat al-Aqaba, where Satan appeared to him, and he pelted him with seven pebbles until he went away. Then he appeared to him at the middle Jamra, and he pelted him with seven pebbles. Then he laid him down upon his forehead, and Ishmael, peace be upon him, was wearing a white shirt. He said: "O my father, I have no garment in which you can shroud me other than this, so take it off so you can shroud me in it." He tried to remove it, but it was called out from behind him: "O Abraham, you have fulfilled the vision." He turned around and there was a white, wide-eyed, horned ram, so he slaughtered it.

His saying, the Almighty: "And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice."

18233 - My father told us, Yusuf ibn Ya'qub al-Saffar told us, Dawud al-Attar told us from Ibn Khuthaym, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, he said: The rock that is in Mina at the base of Thabir is the rock upon which Abraham slaughtered the ransom for his son. A white, wide-eyed, horned ram descended to him from Thabir, having a bleat, and he slaughtered it. It is the ram that the son of Adam offered, which was accepted from him, and it was kept until he ransomed Isaac with it.
