18234 - From al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib, he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: The Prophet of Allah David said: "O Lord, I hear people saying: 'The Lord of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,' so make me a fourth." He said: "Verily, Abraham was thrown into the fire and he was patient for My sake, and Isaac sacrificed himself for Me, and Jacob had Joseph absent from him, and that was an affliction that did not befall you."

18235 - With a weak chain of narration from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Verily, Allah gave me the choice between having half of my nation forgiven or [the fulfillment of] my intercession, so I chose my intercession, and I hope it will be more encompassing for my nation. And were it not for what the righteous servant preceded me with, I would have hastened my invocation. For when Allah relieved Isaac of the agony of the slaughter, it was said to him: 'O father of Isaac, ask and it shall be granted to you.' He said: 'Nay, by Allah, do not hasten it before the devil's whispers: O Allah, whoever dies without associating anything with You, having done good, then forgive him.'"

18236 - From Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said to Abu Hurayrah: "Shall I not tell you about Isaac?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Abraham intended to slaughter Isaac. The devil said: 'By Allah, if I do not tempt the family of Abraham at this [moment], I will never tempt any of them.' So the devil assumed the form of a man they knew, and approached. When Abraham went out with Isaac to slaughter him, he entered upon Sarah and said: 'Where did Abraham go early this morning with Isaac?' She said: 'For some need of his.' He said: 'No, by Allah.' She said: 'Then why did he go out early?' He said: 'To slaughter him.' She said: 'He would not slaughter his son!' He said: 'Yes, by Allah.' Sarah said: 'Then why would he slaughter him?' He said: 'He claims that his Lord commanded him to do that.' She said: 'He has done well to obey his Lord, if He indeed commanded him to do that.'

So the devil went out and caught up with Isaac while he was walking in the footsteps of his father. He said: 'Where did your father go early this morning?' He said: 'For some need of his.' He said: 'No, by Allah, rather he went out with you to slaughter you.' He said: 'My father would not slaughter me.' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Why?' He said: 'He claims that Allah commanded him to do that.' Isaac said: 'By Allah, if He commanded him, he will certainly obey Him.'

Then the devil left him and hurried to Abraham and said: 'Where did you go early this morning with your son?' He said: 'For some need of mine.' He said: 'No, by Allah, you only went out with him to slaughter him.' He said: 'And why would I slaughter him?' He said: 'You claimed that Allah commanded you to do that.' He said: 'By Allah, if Allah commanded me, I will surely do it.' He said: So he left him and despaired of being obeyed. When Abraham took Isaac to slaughter him, and Isaac submitted, Allah pardoned him and ransomed him with a great sacrifice. He said: 'Rise, O my son, for Allah has pardoned you.' And Allah inspired Isaac [the text then continues with the devil appearing] as a friend of his and said to him... [The text continues with the account of the devil trying to deter Abraham, Isaac, and Sarah, and then failing to stop them at the Jamarat].
