Translation · EN

18298 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "or more," he said: "They exceed by thirty thousand" (1).

18299 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "or more," he said: "They exceed by more than thirty thousand" (2).

18300 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "[to] a hundred thousand or more," he said: "They were more than forty thousand" (3).

18301 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "a hundred thousand or more," he said: "They exceed by seventy thousand" (4).

His saying, the Almighty: "So ask them, [O Muhammad], 'Are there for your Lord the daughters, and for them the sons?'"

18302 - From Qatada, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "So ask them," he said: "Meaning, ask them"—referring to the polytheists of Quraysh—"'Are there for your Lord the daughters, and for them the sons?'" He said: "Because they said: 'For Allah are the daughters, and for them are the sons.' And they said: 'The angels are females.' So He said: 'Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnessing?' [Like] that, indeed, it is out of their falsehood that they say: 'Allah has begotten,' and indeed, they are liars. Has He chosen the daughters over the sons? Then what is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgment? ... Is it that you have a clear authority?"—meaning, a clear justification/proof—"'Then bring your scripture,'"—meaning, your justification—"'if you should be truthful.' 'And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage.'" He said: "The enemies of Allah claimed that He, Blessed and Exalted is He, and Iblis are brothers" (5).

His saying, the Almighty: "And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage. But the jinn have already known that they [the claimers] will be brought [to punishment]."

18303 - From Mujahid, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage," he said: "The disbelievers of Quraysh said: 'The angels are the daughters of Allah.' So Abu Bakr al-Siddiq asked them: 'Then who are their mothers?' They replied: 'The daughters of the noble jinn.' So Allah said: 'But the jinn have already known that they will be brought [to punishment].' He says: 'Indeed, they will be brought to the reckoning.' He said: 'And the jinn here means the angels'" (6).

18304 - From Atiyyah, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage," he said: "They said: 'He entered into marriage with the noble jinn'" (7).

18305 - From Abu Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "They were named jinn because they were in the gardens (jinan), and the angels are all hidden (ajinnah)" (8).
