the messengers, so My punishment was justified, meaning: they all denied the messengers, and their punishment was justified. "And these wait"—meaning the nation of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him—"only for one shout, [from which] there is no delay," meaning no return, no recovery, and no repentance. "And they say, 'Our Lord, hasten for us our share'"—meaning our portion of the punishment before the Day of Resurrection. Abu Jahl had indeed said that: "O Allah, if what Muhammad says is the truth, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment" (1).
His saying, the Almighty: "And they say, 'Our Lord, hasten for us our share.'"
18336 - From Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "[from which] there is no delay," he said: No return. "And they say, 'Our Lord, hasten for us our share,'" he said: They asked Allah to hasten it for them (2).
18337 - And from the path of al-Zubayr ibn 'Adiyy, from Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "Hasten for us our share," he said: Our portion of Paradise (3).
His saying, the Almighty: "[Always] returning [to Allah]."
18338 - From 'Amr ibn Shurahbil, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: The "awwab" (one who returns) is the one who glorifies Allah (al-musabbih), in the Ethiopian language (4).
His saying, the Almighty: "And [We] gave him the decisive speech."
18339 - 'Umar ibn Shabba al-Numayri narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Abi Thabit narrated to me, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad, from his father, from Bilal ibn Abi Burda, from his father, from Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: The first person to say "Amma ba'd" (Now then) was Dawud (David), peace be upon him, and it is the "decisive speech" (5).
His saying, the Almighty: "And We strengthened his kingdom."
18340 - From Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, he said: A man from the Children of Israel claimed before Dawud, peace be upon him, that his son had been killed. He asked the man for evidence, but he denied it. He asked the other for evidence, but there was no evidence. Dawud, peace be upon him, said to them: "Stand aside until I look into your matter." الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عَلَيْهِمْ عِقَابِ وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَؤُلاءِ يَعْنِي: أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً يَعْنِي السَّاعَةَ مَا لَهَا مِنْ فَوَاقٍ يَعْنِي: مَا لَهَا مِنْ رُجُوعٍ، وَلا مَثْوَبَةٌ، وَلا ارْتَدَادٌ وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا عَجِّلْ لَنَا قِطَّنَا
أَيْ نَصِيبَنَا حَظَّنَا مِنَ الْعَذَابِ قَبْلَ يَوْمِ القيامة، قَدْ كَانَ قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ مَا يَقُولُ مُحَمَّدٌ حَقًّا فَأَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةً مِنَ السَّمَاءِ أَوِ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ «١» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا عَجِّلْ لَنَا قِطَّنَا
١٨٣٣٦ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فِي قَوْلِهِ: مَا لَهَا مِنْ فَوَاقٍ قَالَ: مِنْ رَجْعَةٍ وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا عَجِّلْ لَنَا قِطَّنَا قَالَ: سَأَلُوا اللَّهَ أَنْ يُعَجِّلَ لَهُمْ «٢» .
١٨٣٣٧ - وَمِنْ طَرِيقِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فِي قَوْلِهِ:
عَجِّلْ لَنَا قِطَّنَا قَالَ: نَصِيبَنَا مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ «٣» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: أَوَّابٌ
١٨٣٣٨ - عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: الْأَوَّابُ: الْمُسَبِّحُ، بِلُغَةِ الْحَبَشَةِ «٤» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَفَصْلَ الْخِطَابِ
١٨٣٣٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ شَبَّةَ النُّمَيْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ بِلالِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ أََبِِي مُوسَى رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ- قَالَ: أَوَّلُ مَنْ قَالَ: «أَمَّا بَعْدُ» دَاوُدُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ وَهُوَ فَصْلُ الْخِطَابِ «٥» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُ
١٨٣٤٠ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: ادَّعَى رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، عِنْدَ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ قُتِلَ وَلَدُهُ فَسَأَلَ الرَّجُلَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَجَحَدَهُ فَسَأَلَ الْآخَرَ الْبَيِّنَةَ فَلَمْ تَكُنْ بَيِّنَةٌ فَقَالَ لَهُمَا دَاوُدُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ: قُومَا حَتَّى أَنْظُرَ فِي أَمْرِكُمَا، فَقَامَا مِنْ، عِنْدِهِ فَأَتَى دَاوُدُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ فِي مَنَامِهِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ: اقْتُلِ الرَّجُلَ الَّذِي اسْتَعْدَى، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ هذه
