357: 1874: Khalaq (share/portion): 1: Al-Qurtubi said: The habit of the Jahiliyyah was to pray only for worldly interests. They would ask for camels, sheep, and victory over the enemy, and they would not seek the Hereafter, as they did not know it nor believe in it. Thus, they were forbidden from that specific type of supplication for worldly affairs. The prohibition came in the form of a report about them. It is possible that this threat also applies to the believer if he restricts his supplications to the world; in that case, he has no share in the Hereafter—meaning, no share like the one who asks for the Hereafter. Al-Khalaq means: a portion.

It was said to Anas: "Supplicate to Allah for us," so he said: "O Allah, give us in this world good, and in the Hereafter good, and save us from the punishment of the Fire." They said: "Add more for us." He said: "What do you want! I have asked for the world and the Hereafter." In the Sahih, it is narrated from Anas that he said: "The most frequent supplication that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say was: 'O Allah, give us in this world good, and in the Hereafter good, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.'"
