: 2201: A degree [of authority]: 2: It is established in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Jabir that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said in his sermon during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "So fear Allah regarding women, for you have taken them by the trust of Allah and have made their private parts lawful to you by the word of Allah. It is your right over them that they should not allow anyone you dislike to step upon your beds. If they do so, beat them, but not severely, and they have the right to their provision and clothing according to what is customary."
