Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 11 · Page 13

Translation · EN

: 124: They do not perceive: 2: The previous source: (1/50).

: 126: They believed: 3: Ibn Kathir said: And if it is said to the hypocrites, "Believe as the people have believed," meaning: like the belief of the people in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Resurrection after death, Paradise and Hell, and other than that which He informed the believers of and about, and obey Allah and His Messenger by fulfilling the commands and abandoning the prohibitions.

46: 127: Death: 1: Tafsir al-Qurtubi: (1/178).

: 130: Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: 2: Al-Qurtubi said: And this statement from the hypocrites, they were only saying it in secret and mockery, so Allah informed His Prophet of that, and He affirmed that the foolishness, the weakness of intellect, and the corruption of insight are in their sphere and a trait of theirs, and He informed that they are the foolish ones but they do not know, because of the rust that is upon their hearts.

: 131: The ignorant: 3: Al-Kalbi narrated from Abu Salih from Ibn Abbas:

That it was revealed concerning the affair of the Jews, meaning: And if it is said to them—meaning the Jews—"Believe as the people have believed"—Abdullah ibn Salam and his companions—they said: "Shall we believe as the foolish have believed!" meaning the ignorant and the mentally deficient, and the root of 'safah' (foolishness) in the speech of the Arabs is: lightness and thinness. It is said: 'A foolish garment' if it is poorly woven and light, or if it is worn out and thin.

47: 138: And evil: 1: Tafsir Ibn Kathir: (1/51).

: 139: Their devils: 2: Tafsir Mujahid: (1/69).

48: 143: From them: 1: Al-Qurtubi said in "His Tafsir: 1/180" regarding the saying of the Almighty: "Allah mocks them," meaning: He takes revenge on them and punishes them, and ridicules them and recompenses them for their mockery; so He named the punishment with the name of the sin. This is the view of the majority of scholars, and the Arabs use that frequently in their speech, and among that is the saying of Amr ibn Kulthum:

Let no one be ignorant toward us, so that we may be ignorant above the ignorance of the ignorant.
