Authentic. Narrated by Muslim in (Al-Iman, h/99), Al-Tirmidhi (h/2992), who said: 'This is a hasan hadith.' Also Ahmad (1/233), Al-Hakim (2/286), Al-Manthur (1/374), Al-Fath (8/206), Ithaf (7/297), Abu 'Awanah (1/75), Ibn Kathir (1/501, 502), Al-Qurtubi (3/421), Al-Tabari (3/96), Al-Hilyah (7/104), and Sifah (210).

And if he intends to do a bad deed, I forgive it as long as he does not do it, but if he does it, I record it for him as one like it."
