(10277, 10278) and al-Mughni 'an Haml al-Asfar (1/314, 4/46), and it was declared Sahih by Shaykh al-Albani.
766: 4184: Time: 1: Da'if (weak). Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (h/3565). Al-Tirmidhi said: "This is a gharib (rare) hadith; we only know it through the hadith of Abu Nadrah, and its chain of narration is not strong." It was also narrated by Abu Dawud in (al-Salah, Chapter: Seeking Forgiveness), and Ibn Kathir: (1/407).
: 4185: Sins: 2: Tafsir Mujahid: (1/136).
767: 4190: Upon them: 1: Imam Ahmad said: Yazid narrated to us, Jarir informed us, Habban—who is Ibn Yazid al-Shar'abi—narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr, from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that he said while upon the pulpit: "Show mercy and you will be shown mercy; forgive and you will be forgiven. Woe to the 'aqma' (funnels) of speech; woe to those who persist, who persist in what they have done while they know."
Narrated by Ahmad (2/165, 219), al-Durar (36), al-Kanz (5976), al-Manthur (2/78), Ibn Kathir (2/106), al-Targhib (20213, 308), al-Khatib (8/265), al-Bukhari in 'al-Adab al-Mufrad' (380), and al-Majma' (10/191), and he attributed it to Ahmad, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Habban ibn Yazid al-Shar'abi, and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy. It was narrated by al-Tabarani as well.
His saying: "The 'qam'"—like the word 'dil''—is the vessel placed at the top of a container to be filled with liquids. He compared the ears of those who hear speech but do not comprehend it, memorize it, or act upon it, to the funnels that do not retain anything of what is poured into them; it is as if it passes through them as a path, just as the drink passes through funnels.
