It is one of the mursal reports of Ibn Abbas, for he did not witness it, nor did his father. Al-Hakim recorded it in his Mustadrak from Abu al-Nadr al-Faqih, from Uthman ibn Sa'id, from Sulayman ibn Dawud ibn 'Ali ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas as such. Similarly, it was recorded by Ibn Abi Hatim and al-Bayhaqi in Dala'il al-Nubuwwah from the hadith of Sulayman ibn Dawud al-Hashimi as such, and some parts of it have supporting testimonies in the Sahih collections and elsewhere."

Khalid ibn al-Walid and 'Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl attacked them—and they were at that time disbelievers—and they killed him along with those who remained, may Allah have mercy upon them.
