(2/131), al-Tabari (4/205), Ibn Kathir (2/206, 207, 208), and al-Majma' (10/198), and he attributed it to Ahmad and al-Bazzar. It contains 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Thabit ibn Thawban, whom a group [of scholars] declared reliable, while others declared him weak.

And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "The best of you are those best to their families, and I am the best of you to my family; and when your companion dies, leave him alone."
Authentic (sahih). Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (hadith/3895), who said: "This is a hasan gharib sahih hadith."
