Al-Qurtubi said: "What has been gathered from their school of thought regarding what some scholars mentioned is that they are monotheists, yet they believe in the influence of the stars and that they are active agents. For this reason, Abu Sa'id al-Istakhri issued a fatwa declaring them infidels to Al-Qadir Billah when he asked him about them." Al-Razi chose the view that the Sabians are a people who worship the stars in the sense that God made them a Qibla for worship and supplication, or in the sense that God delegated the administration of this world to them. He said: "This view is the one attributed to the Harranians, to whom Abraham (peace be upon him) came, refuting them and invalidating their claims. This is the most apparent of the statements, and Allah knows best."
129: 650: The angels: 1: Ibn Kathir said: In the hadith of the trial (al-futun) from Ibn Abbas, it is stated that when they refused to obey, the mountain was raised over them so that they might listen. Al-Suddi said: "When they refused to prostrate, Allah commanded the mountain to fall upon them. They looked at it, and it covered them, so they fell and prostrated. They prostrated on one side and looked with the other side. Then Allah had mercy on them and removed it from them. They said: 'By Allah, there is no prostration more beloved to Allah than a prostration by which He removes punishment from them.' Thus, they continue to prostrate in that manner."
