Ibn Kathir said in the interpretation of this verse: It has reached me that when the Children of Israel killed their prophets and disbelieved, and they were twelve tribes, one tribe among them dissociated themselves from what they had done, apologized, and asked Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, to separate them from them. So, Allah opened for them a tunnel in the earth, and they traveled through it until they came out behind China; they are there, monotheistic Muslims (Hunafa' Muslimin) facing our Qiblah.
1589: 8382: spring: 1: I say: The verses from His saying, the Exalted: "And We divided them into twelve tribes" up to His saying, the Exalted: "Then We sent upon them a torment from the sky because they were wronging" have already been interpreted in Surah al-Baqarah, which makes repeating it here unnecessary, and to Allah be the praise and the grace.
